I originally went to school for computer and electrical engineering.
I attended for about a year and half before I left. When I did I had straight As, and my professors were saying “what are you doing?” I would have gladly spent a million dollars to learn not to waste the rest of my life pursuing something i wasn’t truly passionate about.

so I left school and went on tour with my band,
and tour managing. Was on tour for a while, and I started cutting my own hair,
and then i started cutting my bandmate's hair, and I would cut all the other bands we were on tour with. Then i started cutting hair for people who came to the shows and at warped tour.
I would set up a next to where we sell t-shirts and CDs, to cut hair for people.
I was just cutting, and i was just doing it from feeling but had zero training, shaping the hair, all these people who like that style of music would come, it was super punk rock and hardcore,
no capes, maybe just a drum stool, we’re in the middle of a field,
and i would ask the people to go run to get the guy with the hose at the slip and slide, get your wet hair, and then I would cut their hair, and ask them to go to the rest room to have a look in the mirror and let me know what they think. One girl came back in tears,
I thought she was going to kill me, she’s going to murder me, and i’m done...
but she came to me and gave me the biggest hug ever, and says
i love it, i feel like myself for the first time. Its was crazy!! I was beside myself. I did something good for someone else, to the point of bringing them to tears of joy.
I think this is what i should be doing!

plus i didn’t want to live in a van with seven other guys for the rest of my life.

so then I moved back to New York to learn the craft properly,
at Aveda institute in Soho, graduated and then
I busted my ass. People who do their best don’t always accomplish their goals and dreams, because sometimes your best just isn’t good enough and I knew that. So my mentality has always been do ‘whatever it takes’ ! That mentality is why I am where am I today. Only 9 yrs in, so still have way further to go and grow!

I was in the salon the first two years,
and then I got the opportunity to do my first fashion week, I was obsessed, this was a job?
I loved it. My first job I assisted someone and I made 300 dollars a day... I was only making $150 a day in the salon. So I thought if i am assisting and i’m getting 300 a day,
what was the guy Im assisting making? So I left the salon and
started building my book, and doing freelance full time. Over the years I partnered with some major brands and
did a ton of education, shows and product development.
So I finally got to use and combine my engineering background and my love of hair together.
Im just super focused on my craft and passion. Ive been straight edge my whole life so I don’t party at all and Ive never drank or done anything like that, not even a drop of alcohol, no drugs, no nothin wink emoticon . I don’t have time for distractions.
I like to work on my car with my brother who is a mechanic. We use to race a lot when were younger, and I do a lot of graffiti in my spare time if I have any. That’s what I really have time for outside of hair.
I clean my house a lot! I clean everything… that’s pretty much me. Eat, breath and sleep hair. Even though I don’t really sleep, i just love what i do! "

( and he’s only still 32 )
