10 TIPS ON HOW TO SHOP LESS

1. just WATCH THE TRUE COST, the documentary,
seriously, if you actually sit down and watched this documentary about what happens behind the cheap clothing we consume these days, I’m sure you will lose ALL your appetite or desire for fast fashion. (just rent or buy it on iTunes)

2. CHALLENGE YOURSELF
Stop walking into fashion fashion retailers like H&M, ZARA, Primark, Uniqlo, Topshop, Forever 21…. etc tc TRY YOUR DOSE OF FASHION DETOX, you can try committing yourself to one month, three months, six months or a year… its up to you, BUT all I can tell you is you’ll feel so good and light after it.

3. DO A STOCKTAKE of your wardrobe
Go through everything in your wardrobe, count and write down how many pieces of tops, bottoms, dresses, knitwear and outerwear you have, socks, scarves, hats, sunglasses, shoes… etc. Just an exercise for you to realise how much you ACTUALLY have ALREADY, you probably already have much more than enough.

4. REORGANISE your closet, room and home
Most girls whine about not having anything to wear all the time, hey but that’s probably only because their closet is exploding, and the reality is, rather than not having stuff to wear, its because they have too much, so much that you can’t even see what they have. So why don’t you start by tidying up, organising and possibly streamlining your wardrobe and home? You might get more space to see and think better.

5. DO THE MATH
Try calculate and fin out how much you spent on clothing last month or last year… Try imagining how much money you can save if you didn’t spend it on “fashion”/“fast fashion”.

6. Just ask yourself, what would you like to spend your time and energy on if you didn’t shop? After all, RETAIL is NOT THERAPY. If you’re slashing your money because you’re stressed or unhappy…I can tell you, it’s NOT going to help. Just go do some exercise, and get your happy hormones back, or just go see your shrink!

7. STOP LETTING THEM BRAINWASH YOU
you don’t need another black dress! Gold can be so this season, but it will be so OUT again so soon. Just pick and buy garments you actually love, FORGET ABOUT what’s in season.. Fashion seasons are so over.

8. BUY SECOND HAND. BUY VINTAGE
The world of second hand and vintage is vast and beautiful, full of garments with stories, with history.

9. TRY SWAPPING GARMENTS WITH FRIENDS
I totally understand we do get tired of the same pieces of clothing over and over again, so why don’t we try swapping with friends? Its easy, and you don’t have to chuck stuff out, the garment you once loved will have a new nice home… that’s the way towards a green circular economy.

10. GO OUT. DONT GO IN to shopping malls or shops…
the world is huge, there is so much to explore in life, let’s just try to tick SHOPPING off our hobby list.
